I'm both personally and professionally interested in impact investment and the role we can all play in achieving a lot more (social) bang for our buck! (If you don't know about impact investing yet, check out the GIIN website.) I've been micro-investing my own money in small businesses around the world through the organisation Kiva since April 2017. With a total deposit of $539, Kiva has enabled me to lend those funds more than 2 times over, with loans of $1,325 made to 50 small business owners in 23 countries across 11 sectors, with a low default rate of 4.1% (only $26.63 defaulted). Amazing!
I love the outdoors, travelling and trying new languages. I lived in Hokkaido, Japan for 3 years in my 20s, but have since hung up my snowboard boots and cross-country skis :). I continue to enjoy hiking and camping. Hiking highlights have been climbing Mount Fuji's old pilgrim route in 2008 and Spain's Camino Way in 2016. The next major walk I would love to accomplish is the Kokoda Track.
